A recognised leader and strategist in infrastructure, decarbonisation and economic development with a track record of driving commercial results and ESG progress in both the private and public sectors. With an excellent network, he flourishes in challenging and ambiguous situations, using influence, initiative, and courage to secure outcomes. He has the gravitas to work with government and business at the highest level. He recently led the development of one of the UK’s highest profile ‘mega projects’ – the £23bn Northern Powerhouse Rail programme, a major plank of the UK Government’s strategy to level up the economy. He was a panel member for the HM Treasury review into financing energy, renewables and other UK infrastructure, and was previously a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Futures Council on Long-Term Investing and Infrastructure.

He brings very well-developed values and a wide range of skills to Boards including: first class relational skills encompassing the ability to scrutinise, encourage and advise, with great communication skills and the ability to grasp and process complex information quickly; a track record of driving an authentic ESG agenda; very strong financial skills which also brings reassurance on regulatory and compliance matters; knowledge of technology, trends and external realities to help develop and test strategy; and a track record of building trust to create the right dynamic to enable open and frank discussion.

Currently an independent non executive director on a £1bn portfolio of infrastructure concessions and a consultant working on initiatives in housing, advanced manufacturing, transport & decarbonisation.
